Kikkawa You (吉川友), born on May 1, 1992 in Ibaraki (Japan), is a Japanese idol, singer and actress.
Her nickname is Kikka (きっか).
Biography / History
Kikkawa You participated in the Morning Musume 8th generation audition in 2006. She was a finalist. Only Mitsui Aika was chosen to join the idol group.
However, Kikkawa You was selected by Tsunku♂ to join Hello! Project in April 2007.
She was a member of Hello! Pro Egg (2007 – 2010) and Milky Way (2008 – 2009) along with Kusumi Koharu and Kitahara Sayaka.
Kikka voiced a character in the anime series Kirarin Revolution (きらりん☆レボリューション).
After leaving Hello! Project, she announced that she was going to pursue her career as a solo singer. She signed under Universal Music label.
The movie Kikkake wa You! (きっかけはYou！) was released in theaters in April 2011. It was a fake documentary on Kikkawa You’s debut. The title is a word play between her name and the Japanese sentence that may be translated as “this is your chance”.
The film aimed to promote her 1st single released in May 2011.
In October 2011, Kikkawa You was starring in the movie Cheerfu11y along with some members of Canary Club, Passpo☆, The Possible and Up Up Girls (Kari). The theme song for the movie is her 2nd single Hapirapi ~Sunrise~ (ハピラピ ～Sunrise～).
She also appeared in the drama Suugaku Joshi Gakuen (数学♥女子学園) along with Morning Musume, Berryz Kobo, °C-ute, S/mileage and Mano Erina. The drama was broadcast between January and March 2012 on Nippon Television (日本テレビ).
Her 5th single Darling to Madonna (ダーリンとマドンナ), released in September 2012, is the ending theme song for the anime Sengoku Collection (戦国コレクション).
Kikkawa You participated in Anime Weekend Atlanta (AWA) in USA in September 2012, and then in Japan Expo Centre in France and in Japan Expo Belgium in Belgium in October – November 2012.
Her cover album Vocalist? (ボカリスト？) was released in November 2012. Kikka performs covers of idol songs from the 80s to the 2000s.
Her photobook You21 was published in May 2013.
In June 2013, she collaborated with Kimaguren to form the special unit Kikkaren (きっかレン).
Her greatest hits album Best of You was released in August 2013.
Kikkawa You, Up Up Girls (Kakko Kari) and The Possible formed the idol unit Team Makenki (チーム・負けん気) in February 2014.
Kikkawa You was starring in the Tokusatsu drama Kanpai Senshi After V (乾杯戦士アフターV) broadcast between April and June 2014.
She was the guest of Anime Friends in Brazil in July 2014.
Team Makenki released its 1st single Mugen, Fly High!! (無限、Fly High!!) in September 2014.
Kikka acted in the stage play Reasons to Be Pretty (シアワセでなくちゃいけないリユウ) in January 2015.
Kikkawa You gave a concert at Natsumatsuri in Peru in February 2015.
Her 9th single Hana (花), released in May 2015, is described as “the longest idol song of all time in which Kikkawa You sings about the life of a girl”. The total duration is 17 minutes 25 seconds.
She performed at Pipe Live Music in Taiwan alongside Starmarie in July 2015.
She played in the 2nd season of the drama Kanpai Senshi After V (乾杯戦士アフターV) in 2015.
Her 3rd album You the 3rd ~Wildflower~, on sale in October 2015, includes the song Wildstrawberry.
Kikkawa You played in the drama Sakura Saku (サクラ咲く) along with Manami Arai (Up Up Girls (Kari)) Tasaki Asahi (Bitter & Sweet) and Kikkawa You. The series started airing in March 2016 on NOTTV.
Kikkawa You participated in IDOLidge Carnival in Taipei, Taiwan, in May 2016.
She collaborated with J-Pop singer-songwriter Oomori Seiko and the rock band Akasick on her 10th single Ha wo Kuishibare! / Charming Shoubu Sedai (歯をくいしばれっっ！ / チャーミング勝負世代) on sale in June 2016.
Kikkawa You will be starring in the musical Yoru no Picnic (夜のピクニック) in September 2016.
